Islamabad: The abolishment of some housing schemes by Overseas Pakistan Foundations has caused loss of about Rs one billion to national exchequer.

At a time when our own financial experts are predicting a rather gloomy picture of the country’s economy, and some officials have even gone as far as calling for an “Economic emergency”, Overseas Pakistanis have become the source of some much needed good news. Recent reports indicate that remittances by Overseas Pakistanis are expected to cross a mammoth US $10 billion this year. This speaks volumes about their commitment towards their country’s economy but in my view their ‘potential’ is much greater, and if given the right opportunities, they can play a much wider role in the nation building process. Lahore: The facility of online investment for overseas Pakistanis in the National Savings would augment flow of foreign exchange in the country. Director General National Savings Zafar M.Sheikh said talking to APP here on Wednesday.

Q.1 Can I deposit profit cheque into my account with any scheduled bank? If not, then how can I withdraw my profit without coming to the Centre?
Ans: No. Unlike cheques of banks, the Profit coupons/withdrawal slips of NSS are not negotiable instruments, hence not acceptable by banks. The profit accrued on BSC only may, however, be collected through an agent duly authorized by the certificate holder at his/her own risk and subject to the satisfaction of the officer in charge. Pak People’s Welfare Association (PPWA) held a meeting with Pakistan’s visiting Federal Interior Minister Senator Rehman Malik at Sheraton Doha Hotel on Tuesday.
