Pakistan’s ambassador to Germany Abdul Basit Monday said the newly elected government wanted to work with overseas Pakistanis to bring the country out of current economic crisis through investments, exports and formal transaction of remittances. The ambassador was speaking at the conference on ‘The role of overseas Pakistanis in the economic development of Pakistan’ held in Frankfurt, Germany. The conference was attended by over 60 prominent Pakistani business community members in Frankfurt and surrounding areas, says a message received here from Germany.
The Ambassador briefed the conference about the steps being taken by the government to put the country’s economy back on track.
He mentioned the steps to deal with energy problem on war-footing through a comprehensive energy policy and rectification of losses being suffered by the public sector enterprises to turn these into profit-making organizations.
Ambassador Basit said there would be many more incentives for overseas Pakistanis and the investment environment would improve in the country soon.
The conference decided to hold such events throughout Germany to create awareness among overseas Pakistanis and to mobilize them to invest in Pakistan and create win-win situations.
It was agreed to establish a permanent platform of Pakistani business community in Germany to ensure regular interaction and implementation of specific proposals.
During the Conference, presentations were made by Commercial Counsellors Hassan Yousufzai and Irfa Iqbal on investment opportunities in Pakistan. Businessmen Mir Sikandar Kohler and Sajjad Naqvi narrated their positive investment experiences in Pakistan.
The participants were briefed in detail of the rules and regulations as well as incentives in specific sectors of the economy.Four sectors namely power, Information Technology, infrastructure and agriculture and agro-based industry were identified as highly lucrative for investments in Pakistan.
Consul General Dr. Imtiaz A. Kazi also attended the Conference.
